T O P I C R E V I E WariestigerI read somewhere, I can't remember where, that the position of the Sun in (whatever) house is supposed to imbue one with some of the traits of the ruling sign of that house. So therefore: since my Sun is in the 8th, my second astrological sign should in theory be Scorpio. DO I have Scorpio-type behaviour? Well, I know I get into heavy analysis of anything and everything (too heavy sometimes, I'm aware)... Am I obsessive? YES - can only be the answer to that! I do also consciously evolve and reinvent myself, and have tumultuous emotions...People have also said I'm scary, that my eyes are exceptionally piercing...And as for sex? Hmmm!...(Big grin)Enough! I'd like to hear what anyone else, in particular Moderators, have to say to the above question!dorkus_malorkusInteresting, I have never heard this before but I am always open to new theories. My sun is in Virgo in the 1st house. Do I exhibit any Arien qualities? I don't think so, although I have had intense feelings for men with sun in Aries or heavy placements in Aries but that may be the opposition of my Libra moon.lalalindaYes that is correct. If you're an aries with the natal sun in the 8th house you have scorpio "overtones". You'll notice small things in common with other sun sign scorpios. This is one of the reasons astrology teachers urge you to not only learn how the signs and planets pertain to you in a personal way but rather of all the signs as a whole. This holds true for all the planet placements.AselzionGreetings...The opinionated astrologer speaks:Well... I'll say what I usually say in questions like this: it depends! Are there any other planets in that second sign? Do you have anything else in Scorpio, or only the Sun in the 8th? Signs are divisions of the ecliptic meant for one purpose. They are like adjectives and tell you what character or quality a certain planet puts on while in that sign. The Houses of the chart are projections of the ecliptic onto a particular latitude and longitide (or vice versa) and are meant to describe where those planetary energies will manifest in our lives. In my opinion we're talking apples and oranges. As Gus sys in My Big Fat Greek Wedding, "we all different...but we all fruit." My inclination is to keep the signs separate from the houses. I think that is much cleaner. I always say in astrology; when one factor starts to mean everything, then nothing really means anything.Now.. if you were to say... the Sun is in Gemini. Mercury (ruler of Gemini) happens to be in Cancer... I'd be more apt to think that your Geminian Sun was colored by Mercury's sign than by the House that the Sun was in. Does that make sense? My Sun is also in the 8th house... but I have another planet in Scorpio, squaring the Sun. If I exhibit any Scorpionic tendencies, I tend to think it's because of that square and the fact that I have a planet in Scorpio. Now, I'm much more apt to say that I have 8th house characteristics... I used to work in the banking/credit union industy (8th = other people's money), I am very interested in psychology, alchemy and psychic/spiritual development. (8th house) I am a nurse, and I want to work in the operating room (8th = operations). I have a fascination with end of life (read death) issues and hospice type work (also 8th house); not necessarily Scorpio, but 8th House. See what I mean?Hope that helps a bit.In the Light...A ------------------"The ALL is MIND; the Universe is Mental." *** The KybalionariestigerAselzion - I'd be more inclined to take your point of view myself, but I do find the positions of planets in houses an interesting aspect.I've got Mercury in Aries (8th) as well as the Sun.My 10th house (Gemini) is similarly weighted with Mars and Saturn. And my 6th house (Pisces)the House of service to others, contains my Moon, Venus and Jupiter... ariestiger...So, looks like there's a strong 6-8-10 vibration going on here...Hmmm...Virgo/Scorpio/Capricorn...all sounds very SERIOUS...Not a lot of playtime going on...Which some would consider ideal!!!pidauaI suppose I will add my two cents worth here. I have Sun in the 4th - Mercury is also there. The Sun (Sag) squares my Natal Pluto / Ascendant in Virgo. Although I do not act like a Cancer woman, my house is my refuge - my comfort zone and is very Cancer. I have a home that is decorated to remind me of my heritage as well as is very comfortable. Many Saggies move from here to there and hate settling down. I am ver mobie - but I need my HOME - it is so very important to me. I am also friends with another 4th house Sun - a Leo - and he is the same way when it comes to that comfort zone. My mother is a Cancer Sun / Cancer moon and my father is a Cappy Sun / Cancer moon. All of us have homes that are decorated in the same manner - but to our specific likes and dislikes - meaning - it reflects our own person essence. My brother is a Sag Sun / Scorp Moon with his Sun in the 10th house. His house is only a way station used to sleep, play nintendo, eat, and refuel. LOL...LeylaLeFayMy aquarious sun is in the seventh house of partnerships ruled by libra. I was told this meant I was here to make a very important marriage. ariestigerAha! - a Sagittarian with a 4th house Sun - that strikes a chord (despite the fact I only know ONE).Pidaua, you're absolutely right about the home being the "comfort zone", and the fact that, no matter where said Sagittarius is in the world, they have a strong connection to their roots. They may have no desire to live close to their family, but place a strong importance on the upkeep of their culture nevertheless. It creates a weird dichotomy - but when you divine the Sun position - that explains everything!Taking this theme about how we relate to our homes a little further, I can definetely vouch for the fact that an Aries with 6th House Sun I know views their home as a place to RELAX (presumably after having done all that hard work). I, with an 8th house Sun, view my home as a) my castle (power?)b)somewhere very PRIVATE (we don't have a lot of visitors!!!)pixelpixieI am a Sun in the fourth house, as is my husband. We spend quality time together by renovating. We love decorating and already have re-done three separate rooms since we've lived in this house. We have renovated ALL of them, to an extent, but I mean.. we've decorated/overhauled a room, and then changed it, and the style, a few times.I retiled the tub surround/backsplash, painted a rock pattern on our concrete floor ( The basement.. finished, but still a play room mostly) We took down all dry wall in basement, and put up new walls. I have venetian plastered more than two rooms ( elements of it here and there)Laid new floors, painted trompe'l'oeil, clouds all over my son's room, a sweet girly rooom for my daughter, sewn curtains for each, The retiling , I incorporated beach rocks with the normal tiles and raw looking tiles. We like finding unique pieces, that people will say "where did you get that?!" I LOVE decorating. Needless to say, Trading Spaces was popular t.v time in our house. We relate through creative endeavors together. What happens when all the rooms are done though? (They are, they're all done!!!) A re-do, for harmony?astro junkiePixel -What's "trompe'l'oeil, clouds"? I have a 5th House Sun. The rare times I entertain I love to do it, and would love to do more of it. My home is my sanctuary and people feel comfortable here. I like to make it interesting and fun too.Like Pixel, I too love to lay tile and stucco walls, etc. Being single all my life with, occasional help, I'll just dig in when something needs to be done. It's so weird, I don't like to ask for help until I've tried the project myself first and am sure I'm not able to do it.And I don't like stopping to ask for directions or reading instructions - I share that male-trait for some reason.------------------it's better to light a candle than curse the darkness...pixelpixie"Trompe l'oeil" means 'to fool the eyes'.Like painting realistic looking windows on a wall, to create a window view, or those beautiful scenes in restaurants, perhaps.Mine were real looking clouds.ariestigerPixel, that sounds wonderful! And YES, VERY 4th House. The Sag I know is totally into decorating as well.I envy people who can redecorate a room in a weekend and make it look so simple!!!sthenriI am a Taurus with the Sun in the 6th. My venus is ruled by Aries in the 4th or 5th house depending on how you look at it. So I am very much like an Aries woman. I am on the go a lot and do not like to feel tied down or held down.More and more my house is also a place to refuel and play and go, or to relax and enjoy friends. My ex and I had a huge home that was like a castle and he liked to treat it as a sanctuary. I felt closed off and burdened by all the yard work/cooking/cleaning, and responsibilities of a 4 bedroom house in the country. Now I am moving to a smaller place in the city and I am happy about it. But I can live anywhere as long as there is culture, I can't live in the sticks.I was just speaking to a Gemini with sun in the 4th and he always has to live with someone who keeps things together. I can't live with someone because I am too weak willed about my space with someone in my house. 4th house Geminis do not like to do a lot of work on their homes, they just want a perfect home to relax in. He has a Cancer mate.I can understand a little, I like to be in different places, my friends are all over the place.NatashaTaurus/6thCancer Moon/8thGemini Mercury/7thVirgo-AriesArtistUnfortunately, or fortunately, I haven't decided which ( progressed Libra-ness shines through) I have Sun in Virgo in the 6th house ruled by Virgo...eeek! I find work/service, which my job involves a lot of, very comforting. Helping people is my "sanity zone", and I try to replicate the serenity in my bedroom.Picture this:as you open the slight wood door, you find yourself entering a pleasantly warm temperature room, walls smoothed soothingly over with mystical lavendar, equally uniquely and entrancing images filling the wall space of a ancient wizard, milky white unicorn, Queen Elizabeth I, black and white framed photos of friends...the lighting is low, provided by a lone purple and white lamp that lies upon a silver nightstand, alongside a bed covered by a soft hazy lavendar flannel comforter...the floor is a clear smooth hardwood, cool to the touch, and in the background, there is a lilting peaceful song flowing out from through the surround-sound stereo as the candles situated on the higher surfaces flicker, relasing the temptimg aroma of peach and ocean breeze...That is my humble abode of relaxation, where I blot out the stresses of the world. Sounds enticing, no? -------------------K"Most people love with restraintAs if they were someday to hateWe hated gently, carefullyAs if we were someday to love"-Venus Trines at MidnightOxychickI am an Aquarius with Sun in the 10th. Capricorn rulesmy 8th house and I have Venus in Cap in the 7th. Saturn is in the 4th. I don't think Cap traits fit me well, although a lot of people think I'm very reserved when they first meet me. My boss swears I'm an introvert, but I'm so not. lolsthenriVirgo-Artist I love a peaceful bedroom too..I would say I ought to act like a Leo, I don't know if I do, I am dramatic and have nice hair, and stubborn. So if I'm a cross between Leo and Taurus watch out! I do have a temper. But my 4th is mostly ruled by Pisces so I like peace and beauty and no fighting.NatashaariestigerYou all put me to shame! We bought a reasonably well-appointed house about 5 years ago and have done absolutely NO redecorating - but, on the other hand, it strangely appears to look after itself pretty well...Funnily enough, I don't spend a lot of time in my bedroom - only to sleep (I adore my incredibly comfortable bed). It's nice, but I prefer "THE OFFICE" or "THE STUDIO", whatever you like to call it. It's the only room in the house that is allowed to be messy. I'm clean, my partner is tidy, so I need the obligatory bit of chaos. Occasionally it gets into such a mess that even I cannot function and HAVE to have a blitz. Picture this: books piled up on the floor, paints and Art equipment everywhere, microscopes, origami sculptures, computer, drawing board, CD player, carrier bags full of plant materials that I haven't got down to drawing yet...Somehow, I need a certain amount of untidiness around me in order to be able to function. It seems to invigorate the imagination, get the creative energy bouncing off the walls. (By and large, I've found artists are like that...)I'm not as bad as in my student days, though, when I really could not be bothered to do a stitch. astro junkieOh - Trompe l'oeilI can figure that out "Trumping of the Eye"
